LLC Conversation Club

Time Objective Observations Subjective Observations
2:36-2:50 Welcome and introductions (two truths, one lie, can only ask WH q’s to find out which one is the lie) If there are very few people some activities could be tough, especially if they are shy.
2:50-3:05 Students create their own 3 statements and ask each other questions Can be difficult to get students to participate but once they are comfortable the questions flow.
3:05-3:10 Discussion between us
3:10-3:18 Go in groups and discuss interests. Find 2 things you have in common Could be tough if people are shy but it’s a good way to make students use vocab and ask questions
3:18-3:30 Cultural differences in greetings and gestures, restaurants, bucket lists Good for students to learn about norms in Canada, and vocalize their knowledge in English
If you could be a famous person? Animal? Flower? movie genre of your life? Where would you travel
Would you rather? Two choices to finish class Good way to learn about classmates and also for students to learn vocabulary/express themselves

Better to have more planned than less planned! Although we did not have any students show up in the conversation club, it was nice for those of us who were there to go through the activities with Hilda and see them from the role of student and teacher. Hilda’s activities are good for all levels, which is important here as many lower level students will be attending. The goal is to get people to talk and so I think that the large variety of topics and activity types will ensure that students will find something that helps them to engage. When we have to host the club, I would like to ensure that people from different countries and levels are interacting with each other a bit so that they can learn from their differences. I will also strive to ensure the topic is interesting for everyone so that they will want to contribute to the conversation.
