I think that today’s lesson went very well. We played Jeopardy as a review of content that we have covered so far in the class and most students were very engaged. They seem to be more and more comfortable coming on the microphone and working together. They are more willing to think aloud and try out the questions, which is nice to see. Some students were not feeling well so they just observed, and some sounded tired which is understandable if they had to get up early for class.

The warmup went smoothly and they seemed to really understand the differences between phrases and clauses. Jeopardy was definitely harder for them, and I think the risk of losing points made it higher stakes and more fun. It is cool to see who emerges as leaders in their group. W has been much easier to manage lately and he is interrupting less, but I wonder if it is because he is less engaged in the lessons. It is hard to tell sometimes when we cannot see student’s faces and cannot force them to participate.

For the closing activity, we asked students to create two sentences containing an adjective clause to describe themselves before they were able to leave. I think we need to do a better job of enforcing the two sentences as some students left before submitting anything or only completed one, but it is hard to keep track of their participation sometimes. On a positive note, I am feeling much more confident in providing real-time corrections to students on their work and I like being able to use Brian as a resource if I need.
